Karen Peters called the meeting to order. The discussion topic was “Whiteface Mountain & Wilmington in Literature.” The business meeting was held after the discussion. Since there was not a quorum of trustees, the majority of the business meeting was tabled until the next meeting to be held on August 5, 2009. However, the following announcements of upcoming programs were made:
• The 175th Anniversary celebration of the Whiteface Community United Methodist Church, which the Wilmington Historical Society has been supporting by providing research, photos and digitization services, will be held on Sunday, July 12th. There will be a special church service at 10:30 am followed by a Powerpoint Presentation at 12 noon, and a barbeque and Christian popular music concert beginning at 1:00 pm.
• The 150th anniversary of John Brown’s Raid on Harper’s Ferry, a Civil War encampment event, will be held at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site on August 1-2. The Wilmington Historical Society has been supporting the event preparations by providing contact information to the Capital District Civil War Roundtable, one of the event’s sponsors.
• The Wilmington Historical Society presents “Adirondack-Champlain Iron: Creator of Boom Towns & Ghost Towns, 1750’s-1970’s” by SUNY Plattsburgh Associate Professor John Moravek on Friday, July 17 at 7 pm in the Community Center.
